About

Chattogram (Chittagong) is Bangladesh's principal and largest seaport, better-connected internationally than Mongla, and is also offered to Nepal under a transit arrangement.

Role for Nepal cargo

For Nepali traders it is mainly relevant for the eastern corridor and for growing Nepal–Bangladesh trade. It is farther from Nepal than the Indian east-coast ports, but its deeper international network can suit cargo bound for eastern Nepal.

How cargo reaches Nepal

Ocean vessel → Chattogram Port → Banglabandha–Phulbari transit → Kakarbhitta (border) → Eastern Nepal

Inland leg to Birgunj ICD: via Kakarbhitta (eastern Nepal). Mode: Road/rail via Banglabandha–Phulbari.
